In 2024, Give up on:
Embrace your responsibilities, choose your path, and own the consequences. Accountability should be your watch word for 2024. In truth, you are responsible. The government isn’t coming to save you, nobody is (except Jesus of course). You are the captain of your life. Take a hold of the stern, quit nagging, and steer into your excellent life. See, excuses will only get you so far; as far as others can bear to listen. I won’t. Before you complain, before you apportion blame, before you point an accusing finger of excuse, take responsibility. That’s what 2024 is demanding of you.
I’ll never forget this statement by Myles Monroe; A man is what he repeatedly does. In effect, we become our habits. How true! Rita Mae Brown said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". Even the Great Master Jesus Christ once asked; who puts new wine into old wineskins? It’s a recipe for disaster, and that’s a fact.
You know your Habits of doom. The ones that take you nowhere. Your incessant social media time-wasting, your late-night snacking, your weekend drunken sprees, your gambling addiction, your splurging on every Target sale, … I could go on and on. End them. Now. Save your 2024.
Fear is crippling. It holds people back and prevents them from enjoying their life. Acknowledge this fact. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” – I live by these words. Nothing else matters. I came to appreciate quite long ago, that I have one life to live, and I was going to make the most of it; and two, the journey is far more important than the destination. Why? Because it's what you become along the way that defines you most. Even more than where you're going. If you start thinking like this, failure will mean nothing to you. It’ll be a momentary bump on your journey of life, and you’d have conquered fear.
So go after your dreams; start that business, ask her out, get that extra job, apply to that company again, take that course, do this and do that. When God said He didn’t want us afraid of nothing, He meant it. It’s possible to live fear-free in 2024, it is!
A man's life is not defined by the number of his possessions. I am not saying live like a pauper. Far be it. Live like a king, if you may. But let 2024 be remembered for you as one of far greater importance. A year where you give up the desire for materialism. The year where you’re not bound by what’s in vogue or trending. The year where you stop chasing the next shiny thing. Let 2024 catapult you past the allure of material wealth and instead seek the riches of the soul, of heart, and of mind. For in the sanctum of the spirit, we find the abundance of eternity. Those who find themselves, are those who look deep within.
As cliche as it sounds, you'll only be as good as the company you keep. Do not be deceived, a man with no friends, is far far better than a friend of thieves, and scoundrels. I stand by these words. Here’s a personal story; I recently collaborated with a DEI expert on LinkedIn (expanded on his initial post) to produce this guidebook. It was a random moment of texting him, and he agreeing to be part of my idea. It happened in less than 2 hours. Now, he and I are such great LinkedIn buddies. That’s a rewarding relationship.
In 2024, cut off toxic relationships, cut off terrible influences, give up company that appears to be leading you wayward. Do it for yourself, for your future, and for your dreams. Remember that you are the sum total of your experiences and the company you keep. And often these two go hand in hand.
Remember what you told yourself as 2024 began; the resolutions and promises you made. Don’t forget them. You shouldn’t. So many have already. Don’t be like them. The journey ahead is ours to craft, and in letting go, we pave the way for the extraordinary to unfold. It’s a great year. DON’T WASTE IT.
Fun fact: It’s impossible until It’s done. So do it!
