Selling physical products with Carrd hasn’t been easy
If you’ve used Carrd as much as I have, you know of the single biggest limitation of Carrd; it’s not intended for complex websites, and certainly isn’t a great platform for e-commerce.
Carrd’s functionalities are honest; they do the basics extremely well without over-promising on features. Sure, there are integrations (widgets) that seek to extend these basic functionalities with APIs, but even these solutions have to make some stark compromises, in order to work within these limits.
For a long time I have sought a way around these drawbacks. I totally love Carrd for its simplicity-of-use and the logic of its intuitive builder. Totally unrivalled. So my stubbornness to see the platform be for me more than it was intended to be, didn’t allow me let go of it.
I simply needed to find a way to make Carrd work for e-commerce.
During the period, I dabbled with Shopify, Wix and even Squarespace as the platforms for my WARDO TENGO. brand and they worked fine (for a season) till I was overwhelmed with pricing, over-complicated integrations, unfriendly builders, limited control over theme designs, and oftentimes the size of their feature cabinets.
They simply felt too “enterprisey” or too rigid for my taste. WARDO TENGO. was just beginning to take off, I didn’t have a lot of inventory, and so I had no need paying a fortune to manage the site.
I just wanted a bare-bones site that I could build and tweak at will; a place to host and sell.
I decided to build my own e-commerce website on Carrd
And so this Carrd template was born. This template is the ideal minimalist e-commerce experience.
It's built with an apparel or fashion store in mind and delivers on all the essentials of a great e-commerce website.
Inspiration for the store was taken from Parel Studios, and initially built for WARDO TENGO.’s latest DIDO collection, launched December 2022.
It utilises Carrd's ‘sections’ feature to mimic pages, and integrates Gumroad & Paystack to complete payments (international & Africa).
Newsletter and emails are handled by Revue API integration.
